3rd January 2018 saw a major milestone for the British Tamil Cricket League – Batticaloa District Schools Cricket Association (BTCL-BDSCA). With the launch of the Cricket Academy, a step forward was achieved in developing cricketing talent at the grass root level in the Eastern Province. It must be noted that this is the second Academy for BTCL. The first was launched in the North in 2016.
The first of a series of training camps planned, saw coaching sessions held for coaches at the Batticaloa Hindu College grounds. Coaches from major schools in the Eastern Province were represented at the first training camp. The head of BDSCA and Methodist College, JRB Vimalraj led the training camp with several other notable figures from the cricketing fraternity including the Sri Lankan national team fast bowling coach Ravindra Pushpakumara.
The long-term goal of the BTCL-BDSCA organisation is to provide a framework to unearth and nurture cricketing talent who can go on to play at the national level. The interest and willingness shown by all the schools is a testimony for this desire and vision.
